Gout Progression: Almost Fell Over Walking!

I took a short break from searching my genome to compile all the research I had on gout.  Soon enough I'll be able to use that to come up with a new diet.  It looks like my situation is getting serious so I need to complete that within the next few weeks.  This morning I got out of bed and almost fell over after taking a step.  There was a bit of pain in my right hip joint.  I almost fell over again walking to another part of the house.  So here I am, with increasing trouble with mobility, and my first born child is almost walking like a pro.  How's that for irony?

I gather that the SLC2A9 and ABCG2 dysfunction contribute to the serious nature of my gout.  I suspect that there is something else going on in my genome though.  The ABCG2 dysfunction could be worse than I could detect looking at the 23andme raw data, which could account for the young age of onset, 27, and subsequent rapid progression of the gout, I'm 31.  I do not take in an excessive amount of purines, nor drink much alcohol or sodas, I got rid of all the baby weight, and take daily walks.  I'm guessing the ABCG2 protein is functioning a little at least but it would be interesting to see how much. There's also some indication that another gene is controlling the expression of the SLC2A9 gene, but who knows what gene that is.

Gout Progression Update: Stiff Thumb Joint

I ordered a gout monitor and test strips a few weeks ago in order to get a baseline measurement of my uric acid level.  Unfortunately, the test strips in the monitor kit and test strip package were defective.  Upon reading the requirements for the test stripes, the weather and shipping method was probably not conducive to getting accurate readings.  The weather was near freezing and the test strips need not be exposed to extreme temperatures.  The issue is that I need to find a place locally to get a uric acid monitor and test strips.
Glucose monitors are all over the place so maybe I find one that also does uric acid.

My gout is progressively impacting my ability to do daily activities.  I woke up with a really sore thumb joint a few days ago.  The night before I had about 4 oz of red wine.  Maybe I cannot have any alcohol at all now.  I could not bend my thumb all the way and had difficulty picking up my 10 month old daughter.  It eventually got less stiff as the morning progressed.  I need to measure my uric acid and also find a doctor that is more familiar with the disease.

No Flu? Genetic Resistance SNP

Sometimes I'm not as organized as I should be.  I remember seeing a rather uncommon SNP in my genome that would indicate some resistance to getting the flu.  But cannot locate it again for the life of me.  My daughter and I visited my grandmother last week.  There was sign on the front entrance of the nursing home warning that many people had the flu.  Since I could not see my grandmother Christmas weekend I felt like I could not back out from seeing her.  The flu warning was going to be lifted the next day.  She was coughing a little and several nurses and residents were wearing face masks in the nursing home.  A few days later I noticed that one lymph node was swollen.  Then it felt completely better a few days after that.  My daughter was coughing only a little.  I had medicine on hand in case she got sick.  So far, neither of us got sick.  Grandmother has since developed the full blown flu and put on flu medicine.  I hope she gets to feeling better quick and gets a break from having the cold and/or flu for a while.  And I hope to let you know what that SNP is soon!
